TVCTV History
In 1997 local community members formed Boiseans for Public Access and convinced the city to include provisions for public access TV in its new cable franchise agreement.
In 1999 Treasure Valley Public Access Television (TVTV) was formed as a non-profit organization and was awarded a city contract to operate a public access station.
In 2000 TVTV volunteers remodeled a former gas station at 6225 Overland Road to create a Community Media Center, equipped with a TV studio, editing suites and offices.
In January 2001, TVTV went on the air and has since been cable casting continuously 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Beginning with a single paid staff member, TVTV has expanded to a full-time Executive Director, a half-time Office Manager and a Technical Assistance Coordinator. Its operating budget has grown from $25,000 per year to $139,000.
TVTV has had over 650 producers and has provided hands-on training to hundreds of community members, especially through its TVTV Youth Camps. TVTV airs 1500 hours of local programs annually, including arts, public affairs, sports, entertainment and religious shows. TVTV has provided live coverage of Boise City Council meetings since 2004.
In 2006, TVTV became Treasure Valley Community Television when it added a second cable channel, GET98 for governmental, educational and health programming.
